Yesterday evening comedians John Bishop, Jason Manford and John Thomson hosted a comedy gala at The Lowry Theatre in Salford.
The gala was to benefit CAFT (The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust).
CAFT provides holidays and day trips and Christmas parties to children who, for a variety of reasons, would never usually have the opportunity. This includes children who are terminally ill, children who have complex disabilities and sensory impairments, and also their siblings who help to care for them.
Jason and both John Bishop and Thomson are all patrons of the charity which is based in Cheshire.
The evening was split into two halves. One half compared by Manford and the other by Bishop.
What was nice was that all the comedians who took the stage had or still do live in Manchester.
The first comedian to take to the stage after Jason’s welcome and run through of how the night was going to work, was Daliso Chaponda, who you may remember from Britains Got Talent earlier this year, where he finished third.
He set the tone for what was to be a night of none stop laughs.
Next up was Simon Lomas, who truly has great comedic timing. Simon is relatively new to the comedy scene, having only been performing comedy for a couple of years. Every joke and gesture had the audience in stitches.

Next up was the only female on the lineup Allyson June Smith, who moved to Manchester from Canada. She told some hilarious tales from her first few months living up North. One particular comment that got a lot of laughter was her take as a Canadian on the Eurovision Song Contest, which when she first moved to the UK and watched, thought it was like the ‘karaoke version of The Hunger Games.’
Jason Manford then sang a song off his new album ‘A Different Stage’, to which the audience clapped along and John Bishop and Allyson came out to dance to as if they were auditioning for Strictly Come Dancing.
Jason also told a joke about his time presenting on the BBC’s One Show and a segment they did about a lady who put a cat in a bin, and his reaction to it.
After a brief interval it was John Bishops turn to compare the remainder of the evening. He did a superb job, his focus was two poor unfortunate audience members in the front row, who came back to their seats late.
He told them after he found out they had only been dating for six months, that he bet they met on Tinder. He turned out to be correct which again had the audience in stitches.
Brennan Reece took to the stage next, with lots of anecdotes related to his experience at the gym which I think many people can relate to.
Next up was John Thomson, admittedly I hold my hands up and say I had very little knowledge about John, other than seeing him act on Cold Feet. But boy is he talented. Very very funny. Does great voice impressions and some absolutely insane animal impressions.
To close the night was Justin Moorhouse who brought a wonderful evening full of laughs for a fantastic charity to an end, with you guessed it far more laughs.
